incoming picture dump! here a few of the pictures i collected as mechanical reference for cogs, rust and steam engines

this is a Glasgow slums. its a perfect reference for atmosphere, and a good road reference also texture wise. although im intrigued as to whether the bars at the top are all for lights or whether they are some sort of washing line replacement.

vitorian terrace, reallynice texture reference for walls and the road and a good model reference with the high window frames.

This picture of victorian slums is great a mood reference close quarters backyards and good light the train just adds that richer steampunk feel to it (you can almost smell it)

a vitorian slums, this really gives a feel of just how crammed together all the houses will be. really dark and dank allyes. this will make good reference for roof top textures (not for color).
here is a fantastic reference for pipelines it has a great steampunk feel to it really grungy. focusing specifically on the metal platforms and the brickwork this will prove useful for a real slum's style location

this picture isnt as a time reference(as the objects in it are from far after victorian times) its more for lighting and the wall texture with its water damage.

here is another great one, loving the lighting in this also the dusty floors are great. not sure whether a dust effect would be more effective in the textures themselves of putting it in at the editing phase.
Research

ok firstly this picture caught my eye as it had a perfect feel for the atmosphere we are trying to create, dark and gritty with a real industrial hollowness. the brick here will be a great reference as will the bleak lighting.
